P5: Record Sound Elements
P5: Record Sound Elements
As shown on my location recce, I have recorded my foley sounds at home and in college. I used the Zoom H6 handy recorder to record my basic foley sounds and I also used the UM-900 Professional USB Condenser microphone to record my voiceovers. The Zoom H6 handy recorder was brilliant for recording my foley sounds since it is battery powered, I didn't have a wire limiting me. My foley sounds are recorded onto an SD card so it it efficient and easy for my to access them using my laptop. The muffle shockmount is used to stop any harsh increases in foley sounds and it also helps the audio sound clear. Although you cannot see in the photo above, I also used a shockmount for the USB mic so my dialogue sounds clear and consise. Furthermore, the UM-900 Professional USB Condenser microphone is placed on a microphone arm which made it easy to record my voiceovers close enough to me and ensures that the sound is stable.
Here you can see I am recording my foley sounds. In the first photo, you can see me recording the metal detector foley sound using the college security gates sound. I found it easier using headphones so I could hear the audio being recorded and ensure it is good quality. In the second image, I am recording the swipe sound effect by sliding a piece of paper across the desk. I will then combine this with a plane engine to make it sound like a plane flying. In the third image, I am recording my voiceover audio. I did this originally for my animation in unit 10. I have used this to talk to my audience and tell them step by step what to do. This is also great for accessibility; subtitles along with my voiceovers means that the video is easy to understand no matter your disability.

Noise |
Because I am recording audio, I need to be in a quiet area. Some noises I might hear around college are: People talking and walking around… |
|||||||||
Keeping in mind my health and safety, I recorded my voiceover audio in my colllege. I recorded in this small room and rearranged items to make sure the area is clear and safe to work in. I also put the wire of the USB condenser mic to the side so I cannot trip on it. I recorded other foley sounds around college and I was careful of tripping and not being in crowds, I did this during lesson times when students were not around the college. At home, I recorded in a quiet room and used everyday objects to make my foley sounds (electric fan for plane engine, xbox 1 top for the conveyor belt...). I think I successfully recorded my foley sounds and the environments I chose were suitable for recording in.
Log of Recordings
This shows the audio foley files used in my animation. I have included what section of my foley sound I used (foley sounds). Here you can listen to my raw unedited foley sound recordings on SoundCloud: shorturl.at/ptzH2
