D1: Evaluate my Sound Elements

                                 Evaluating Feedback

I have collected audience feedback from my peers for my animation and foley sounds. Here you can see the Google Forms I created and the responses I recieved.

Forms response chart. Question title: Did you enjoy my animation?
. Number of responses: 3 responses.

Forms response chart. Question title: Are the foley sounds clear and do they add to my animation?
. Number of responses: 3 responses.

All of the participants enjoyed my animation. They believe that the background music I chose matches the purpose of my animation. My Club Europe animation is informational, so the music is simple and upbeat to reflect this. They think that the foley sounds I used blend into my animation and fit well and the foley sounds are clear. Overall, my resposes are very positive.

However, I did recieve some constructive critisism too. My audience recognised that some of the foley sounds were a little too quiet such as the cross over the plane buzzer foley sound. They also believed that the violin music could be a little quieter so you can hear my kicking football foley sounds. Another member of the audienced believed that the sounds could be more dramatic like the coin drop foley sound by using more coins or layering the foley sound.

To improve the foley sounds, I should re-listen to my animation foley sounds and correct the volume of my foley sounds. I would make the violin sound a little quieter and increase the volume of my kicking football foley sounds to respond to the feedback. I could also edit another copy of my coin drop sound and change the pitch/duration to layer this with my other coin drop effect. Alternatively, I could duplicate my coin drop sound and layer this. I also would like to edit my voiceovers a little more to ensure that thy sound clear and more professional, I could do this using Adobe Voice Enhancer.

Technical Qualities

Loudness, pitch, quality, bit depth and sample rate are all tecnhical qualities I need to be aware of. Loudness refers to the volume of the sounds, pitch refers to how high or low the sound is and quality refers to how clear the sound is.

A waveform shows the digital form that audio takes, this looks like a graph as you can see above. When you record audio, the sample rate refers to how many samples per second the microphone picks up. The more sample rates, the better the audio quality. This is measured in kilohertz. Bit depth refers to the accuracy of the audio. If you have a low bit depth for example, you won't pick up quieter sounds and the audio pitch won't be accurate so a high bit depth is better. However, a high bit depth will take up more space on your system with larger file sizes.

Refering back to my feedback, the audience believes that my audio quality could possibly be better with my voiceovers. I could increase the sample rate and bit depth of the audio to achieve better voiceover audio. They also mentioned that some of my foley sounds were too quiet and the volume needed to be louder such as the background and violin music as well as the plane buzzer sound. The pitch of my foley sounds are perfect.

Here you can see me editing the kicking football foley sounds. Responding to my feedback, I have increased the sound of the football kicks from 0 DB to 5.50 DB. This sounds much clearer.

Here I have made the coin drop foley sound more dramatic by duplicating the original foley sound. Now, it sounds like multiple coins are being dropped which achieves the feedback I have been given.

I increased the decibels of the metal detector foley sound to 4.10 DBs. This is now easier to hear.

Here is my Club Europe animation with foley sounds included. Here you can hear how I have changed my foley sounds as opposed to before the feedback.

This is Adobe Enhancer. This tool can be accessed if you have an Adobe Creative Cloud account. I uploaded my voiceover files to this website, and the tool made my voiceovers sound professional as if I recorded in a studio.

This is my completed Club Europe animation with my foley sounds and audio enhanced.

In conclusion, I have used Adobe audition to edit my sound files. I used Premiere Pro to combine my animation with my audio files. To create the animation itself, I used Adobe Illustrator to draw the assets and Animate to animate it. I have acted on my feedback and shown my progress.
